In the Covenant of Grace, God promises to give His Holy Spirit to all those whom He loves. The Holy Spirit works faith in us. With that faith, the Holy Spirit gives us all the other gifts that belong to our salvation. We call those gifts saving graces. For example, repentence is a saving grace, but there are many other saving gifts of the Spirit necessary to bring us to a true repentence. Sanctification is a work of God's free grace. And there are many other benefits that are ours in the life of the Spirit. For example, assurance, peace, and joy are all a part of the life in the Spirit. Along with these gifts and the Spirit's sustaining grace, we also have a fellowship in glory with Christ now. As a result of all these things, we are able to live in obedience and thankfulness to God. This walk of obedience is evidence of a true and saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and is part of what makes the grace of the Covenant of Grace so obvious. By grace through faith in Christ we walk in newness of life in the Holy Spirit. |
