Why did God tell Abraham to sacrifice Isaac? To silence the jealous, refute the prosperity gospel, and show that we cannot be saved by our works. God must come first, and for Abraham this was a uniquely perfect test of his devotion to God, and he passed the test. His sacrifice of the ram reminds us that we cannot be saved by our works. But God has provided the lamb for the offering -- his own beloved Son, Jesus Christ. It was Abraham's privilege to foreshadow God the Father. |
