For much of the first chapter of Hebrews, there is an argument that Jesus has inherited a name greater than the angels. That name, of course, is Son. The writer continues his argument with application into chapter 2. There are 7 quotes, mostly from the psalms, in chapter 1 culminating in psalm 110 at the end of the chapter. But, the writer isn't done quoting from the psalms and he isn't done stating his argument about the sonship of the Son. He goes on to quote psalm 8: the son that sits on the right hand is the same son under whom all things in heaven and on earth are subjected for the purpose of salvation. The son inherits a better name than the angels because, as the Son, He is the founder of salvation. |
