Judah befriends Hiram, an Adulamite and marries a Canaanite woman. Of the resulting 3 children with Shua two are wicked and die. The last son is promised to the widow of the first son but Judah renegs. The widow, Tamar dresses as a prostitute and attracts Judah at sheep shearing time. Judah has a child with her and has to confess his hypocrisy in condeming Tamar. God is gracious to Judah to be named the leadership tribe of Israel and also would become ancestor to Christ, the promised seed through Perez.
