Idea: Your life doesn't consist in the abundance of things, therefore set your heart and mind on Christ, not on the things of the world.
Intro: We recently considered the parable of the rich man and Lazurus. Jesus told that parable to confront the Pharisees who loved money. I especially pointed out the temptation to make wealth equal to the gospel, or to make it out to be a measure of righteousness. The Parable of the rich fool also deals with the love of money, but Jesus uses it to strike directly at the heart of covetousness.

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” (Colossians 3:1–4, ESV) |
