The Proverbs speak frequently of Lady Wisdom who relentlessly pursues the simple and naive offering them wisdom in order to deliver them from moral and spiritual destruction. It is striking that she seeks out fools wherever they are in order to deliver them through this soul preserving wisdom; so, we find her walking busy streets, crying out in bustling market places, instructing men at the city gates, and sending her daughters out to remote places in order to confront those who are treading the destructive paths of folly. In 1 Samuel 25 we have a narrative embodiment of Lady Wisdom in the person of Abigail who, like Lady Wisdom, seeks out David who is bearing down with all haste upon Nabal's house to slaughter him along with all of his males on account of a mere insult. Abigail intercepts David on a remote mountain pass and blocks the path of his murderous pursuit of Nabal with persuasive words of wisdom. As an instrument of divine providence, Abigail is used of the Lord to turn David away from extreme folly and gross sin with wise words.
