Idea: Jesus sets before you life and death, good and evil, blessing and curse. Choose life!
Intro: You might feel somewhat intimidated by a parable that has to do with Jesus's Second Coming, especially since there are so many different theories that have to do with eschatology, or the doctrine of last things. There are PreMil, PostMil, AMil views. There are varieties of teachings on rapture and tribulation and the resurrection. Dave has often joked that he is PanMil, believing that everything will pan out in the end. While I acknowledge that much mystery remains, certain basic truths can be said about the Second Coming. In fact, the parables capture some of those basic elements of Jesus's teaching and lay them out in simple ways. Such is the case with the parable today.
1. Jesus will judge.
2. Jesus will judge all people.
3. Jesus will judge men against the law.
4. Jesus will reward all men.
JC Ryle, "“Let us close these verses with serious self-inquiry. Let us ask ourselves on which side of Christ we are likely to be at the last day. Shall we be on the right hand, or shall we be on the left? Happy is he who never rests until he can give satisfactory answer to this question.” |
