When Sennacherib came against Judah, Hezekiah made good preparations from a military standpoint but did not call on the Lord until all his preparations failed to slow the Assyrian army's progress. Isaiah 22 shows this to be the case. The Lord addressed the situation without using any of Hezekiah's preparations. The Lord is to have the first place in everything--even for us to respond by seeking His mercy at the time trials begin rather than waiting until our efforts have failed.
