Idea: Motyer, “The thrust of the oracle is to foster faith by recollection of how the Lord acted and blessed in the past and, therefore, encourage waiting in faith for the blessings still to come.”
Isaiah closed chapter 50 with a warning, warning against following the way of the wicked who ignore the word of God, His worship and His law. Isaiah now turns His attention to speak words of comfort to the remnant in Zion who also faced temptation to think that God had deserted His promise. To those who follow after righteousness, who seek the Lord, God says, “Listen to me…” Then He proceeds to nurture the faith of believers by helping them remember how God had acted in the past, how he had blessed in the past. Then based on that, God strengthens our faith to look to Him for the blessings still to come.
The blessings are stated in the form of restoration, even the restoration of Eden, the Garden of God where Adam and Eve walked and talked with God. Such is the church's restoration in Christ. Through Jesus, we are retored to fellowship with God.
