Suffering is an inevitable part of the Christian life, but not all suffering is the same. Peter warns us that some suffering results from sin, and this kind of suffering is justly deserved. However, suffering for the name of Christ is entirely different. Those who endure hardship for their faith should not be ashamed, but should glorify God. Peter also reminds us that suffering serves the purpose of purifying and strengthening our faith.
If you're suffering in your life, ask yourself why. If it's for your own sin, repent of it and turn away. But if you're suffering for the name of Jesus Christ, do not be ashamed, but rejoice and praise God! |
