The argument is often made that the Psalms, if they are sung at all in worship, must be supplemented by songs about Jesus. Such arguments assume that the Psalms in themselves do not sufficiently provide the New Testament church with Christ-centered praise. The Apostle Paul, however, pointed the New Testament believers in his day to the Psalms for the church's praise of the risen Christ. The heart felt singing of these songs of the Spirit is a vital part of being a Spirit filled church. Especially in a day marked by the "worship wars", Christians in our era of New Testament history must, for the glory and praise of the risen Christ, and in demonstration of true Spirit filled worship and witness, rediscover and sing the songs that Christ Himself sang, lived, fulfilled, and gave to His people of all time. |
