The Chronicler obviously saw great importance for Jerusalem. During the exile the Jews remembered Jerusalem as the place they met with the Lord. David had chosen it to be the holy city because God had chosen it for His house. So it was right for the Jews to return there and set up the worship of God again. But it was only temporary because God had told them through the prophets that it would be trampled and defiled. In its place we have the heavenly Jerusalem, the true house of God. We worship Him there through Christ.
