God curses barrenness with barrenness. In the first half of Isaiah 5 the prophet used a song to describe a barren vineyard, one that had been planted and protected by God, but that produced wild, sour grapes, instead. He looked for justice, but behold, oppression; for righteousness, but behold, a cry for help. Bc of this, God cursed the barrenness of Judah with barrenness. 1. Greed 2. Pleasure 3. Vanity 4. Immorality 5. Autonomy 6. Injustice
The devotional 'Table Talk' published by Ligonier Ministries makes an excellent application, one true for Judah, and appropriate for application to our nation today. “If God decides to bring judgment on a nation that has rejected His law and held his holiness in contempt, he will use any means necessary to that end. Judgment might come through pestilence, famine, war or some other form. We don't know. But one thing we can be sure of: if we no longer honor God's law, judgment will come from the least expected place, and with it will come death and destruction.” |
