When exiles returned to Judah and Jerusalem the Chronicler sought to encourage them by reminding them of what God had done for their forefathers. The returned exiles could look back and see that they belonged with their forefathers as God's people. Therefore they should worship the Lord with joy. As we remember what Christ has done for us there should be an overflow of thanksgiving from our hearts. And if their is no joy in thanking and praising God we should examine our standing before God to see whether we are actually trusting in Christ.
