David had a godly aspiration as he convened a military counsel and proposed to them to bring the ark up to Jerusalem. In his persuasive speech to the leaders of Israel, he reminded them that during the reign of Saul the ark had been thoroughly neglected and David aimed to change that by integrating Christ and kingdom in his reign. Though the aspirations were godly, the way he went about bringing the ark up to Jerusalem was unlawful and Uzzah paid the price for neglecting the Law. The result was that God judged Uzzah, terrified David, and blessed Obed-Edom when he acted in faith and brought the ark into his house. Eventually, David learned the fear of the Lord, consulted the Law, and learned to not transport the ark of the covenant like a Philistine.
