The section of 1 Chronicles that begins with chapter 23 is unique to this book. This material is not found in Samuel and Kings. When we examine later prophets like Jeremiah and Ezekiel we find that the leaders in Judah and Israel, especially the priests, had been unfaithful. With this in mind the Chronicler tells of the work of David in setting Godly order among the priests as a reminder to the returned exiles that they needed to set the priests in order so that they would not go into exile again. And now we must be careful to ordain only those called by God to lead His people in worship.
