God's wrath is shown from heaven because men choose to suppress the true knowledge of God and give false worship through this confusion, and God gives men over to reprobation. Man suppresses the truth despite clear evidence. God makes plain His divine nature and eternal power through the creation and inward testimony leaving man without excuse.
Man in his futility turns to created things for worship rather than the creator and sustainer of the universe. In our society we turn to money, youth, pleasure and sexual gratification claiming to be wise in abandoning the true worship of God. In judgment, the Lord abandons men to their own desires. All forms of fornication and adultery reveal the reprobation of the wicked, but there are many other evidences of men being given up to a debased mind including envy, gossip, slander, boasting, disobedience to parents, foolishness, and faithlessness.
The inward guilt of sin remains as a testimony that we need Christ, and even those who suppress the truth know the decree of God that they are guilty before the Creator. Rather than running to Christ, they recruit and give approval to those who practice disobedient living. The company of other practitioners of ungodliness enables an easier suppression of knowledge. The redeemed must continue to fight against the remaining old man of sin and deal gently with all as the Lord ingathers His elect.
