Jesus commanded the leper to show himself to the priest. He commanded him to offer the gift that Moses commanded. Since the leper was certainly clean, all who knew the law, when reading what Jesus commanded, would know the events that would follow. They are not written here, but they are as surely a part of the text as if they were. The leper is about to experience a release and re-entry into covenant society. He will now be able to worship God in the temple. But first, he will be allowed to see his sin, his polution, his uncleanness all fly away. And he will become a soul set soaring. |
