Every ruler wants protection for his nation. As David established order in Israel he had this same concern. But rather than secure protection by a strong military he began to establish security in the kingdom by worshiping the Lord. The king in Israel was uniquely tied to Israel’s worship because he served as a priest-King. (See Psalm 110:4) He secured safety in Israel from the Lord by leading the people in the worship of God. This is the same protection we should seek as we offer the sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving.
