All men practice theology and meditate upon their god; all men are born with knowledge of the true God, but the natural man suppresses knowledge of the attributes, power and divine nature. For the saint, the study of God is the most important and most practical of human study. Theology proper will lead the Lord's people to know Him better and enjoy His covenant blessings. Salvation itself is given that the saints may know God and serve Him properly. The basis of this knowledge comes from silent, humble study of the scriptures rather than personal opinion, for without proper knowledge there can be no true Christian teaching, ethics or assurance. |
