Jesus describes Himself as the Good Shepherd as the one who leads the way to God. The Lord is the true shepherd – the one who has a right to enter – as opposed to a thief and robber. The thieves and robbers are by implication the religious leaders who reject Christ alone as the way of salvation. Christ is known to his sheep or people, and they hear and obey His word. He leads them out of bondage away from the systems holding their hearts hostage. Jesus is also a sacrificing shepherd able to find and save His sheep.
