Intro: You are probably familiar with the term, “blood is thicker than water.” When someone says that, they aren't talking about biology. They are talking about relationships. Blood relatives are close. You have certain feelings and attachments toward your brothers and sisters that you probably don't have toward a total stranger.
John speaks of a similar relationship that shapes how we relate to each other. As a Christian, John says you are born of God, which implies that you are brothers and sisters together in Christ. Being born of God comes to shape how you relate to other believers. You love one another, you obey with one another, and you believe with one another.
