As Saul heads out to find his dad's wandering donkeys, he is completeley unaware that this little trip will forever change his life in radical ways. After a three day search, Saul decides to pay Samuel the prophet a visit to see whether he can help him locate the lost livestock. Samuel bids Saul to stay for a feast and after an all night talk, anoints Saul as king over Israel. Saul's kingship is confirmed publicly through the casting of lots and the Lord unveiled Saul to the people as their king when he pointed to Saul hiding out in some suitcases next to the assembly. This divine unveiling of Saul as king accents both the sovereignty and grace of God. The sovereign unveiling of Saul emphasizes the fact that kingship is a divine provision, not a work of the people; the grace of God is manifest in the fact that God raised up Saul to deliver his people from oppression because he heard their cries. Both aspects of the divine unveiling of Saul's kingship are examined and applied in this message.
