Desire to hear the Word properly preached,
so that you might be built up in the faith.
1. God has given us New Testament means of grace: the Word, Sacraments, & Prayer.
2. Preaching of the Word is one way those “means of grace” are delivered.
3. Preaching has a massive mandate for the believer. (v.1)
4. The goal & outcome are the same... be changed by the preaching of the Word! (v.2)
Preaching is God communicating His Truth in our world to people in the pew through human instruments in order to change their thinking, bridle their emotions, and alter their wills, for the purpose of converting sinners, sanctifying saints, and preparing men and women for heaven.
5. Don't be destroyed by hearing what you WANT to hear. (vv.3&4)
