SERMON INFO
There are many benefits of justification brought into the life of the Christian; the chief of which is the freedom from condemnation for those under the grace of Jesus. The Greek text begins with the word “no” and forever negates condemnation in the redemptive experience of those that are Christians. Despite the struggle with remaining sin in this life, the threat of condemnation is taken away for all time for those who place their trust in the Lord, and this truth is to be a source of great comfort for the saints. The legal justification bought by Christ for his redeemed is to be enjoyed “now” according to the text. Justification is the present reality even for the Christian struggling now with the effects of remaining sin. Knowing Christ means enjoying eternal, full life even now under the experience of justification, redemption, adoption and ongoing sanctification.

These benefits according to the text are for those who are “in” Christ or united with Christ. Union with Christ must affect the life and behavior of His people. Being in Christ points to the eternity past when God by the counsel of His own will chose a people to save unto Himself, and it points to the sacrificial death of Jesus when He suffered for His people already known to Him by name. Being in Christ also points to the personal experiences of His saints who now enjoy this great salvation. But, being in Christ point to a future state as well when in eternity the Lord’s people will serve him without the burdens of frailty or remaining sin.
