When Jesus died on the cross, the sin of his elect was placed upon or imputed to the Lord, and His righteousness is accredited or imputed to His people by the Holy Spirit at the point of salvation. The doctrine of imputation is foundational to our salvation, but it came at great tribulation and pain to the Lord. The pain and suffering of the Lord was not to provide a possibility of salvation rather He did actually redeem His chosen ones and save them from the wrath of God. The Father glorifies His own name in the ministry and work of imputation wrought by Christ. The result of this imputation is the judgment and dethroning of the ruler of this world. At Calvary Jesus Christ achieved total victory over Satan crushing of the head of the serpent and casting him out. The binding of Satan allows the Gospel to go out freely in strength and power to all people groups throughout the world.
