The message of the prophet Haggai was given after some Jews had returned to Jerusalem from the Babylonian exile. They had prepared their own homes but had not yet rebuilt the house of God. Haggai called them to give careful thought to their ways so that they might enjoy God in their midst by rebuilding the temple. His message looked forward to the Christ who would tell the Jews that when they destroyed the temple that is His body He would rebuild it in three days. So now we are to be built up in Christ as His church while we remain in Christ.
