What should a believer do when they need a word from God and yet the Lord seems to turn a deaf ear to their cry? One obviously wrong thing to do is to seek revelation through a medium (Deuteronomy 18:11). In desperation, Saul met with a medium at En-Dor who conjured up Samuel from the grave. If Saul thought he would receive a new word from Samuel he was sorely mistaken as Samuel merely repeated the words of judgment he had previously spoken to Saul (1Samuel 13 and 15). Though Samuel does not provide with Saul with new revelation to meet the need his current circumstances, he does provide the key to what a believer should do when they think God is turning a deaf ear to them: seek reconciliation with the Lord through repentance. Saul was too proud to humble himself before the Lord and therefore he received God's judgment, but Scripture teaches that the Lord may be found by the penitent if they call upon Him with confession of their sins and turn away from unrighteousness. (Isaiah 55:6-7).
