Idea: Because you are children of God, your sins are forgiven, you know God, you know Christ, you abide in His word, you overcome the wicked one.
Intro: John gives three tests by which a person may know that he has eternal life; the test of righteousness, the test of love, and the test of truth. In the process, John pauses to make sure to build up the tender consciences of the church so that they might be assured of their salvation and strengthened to resist the lure of the world.
