We love because He first loved us. (1 Jn 4:19) Love is the fulfilling of the law (Rom. 13:10) “If you love Me you will keep My commandments”. (Jn 14:15)
I. God’s Love for Us
The 1st Commandment: “You shall have no other Gods before Me.”
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you… (Micah 6:8)
The Argument: I have loved you; you, therefore, love Me.
Moses’ Points:
1. His grace is our History
2. His people are our People
…it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. (Gal. 3:7)
II. Our Love for God
A. Relationship and Ritual
He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised... (Rom. 4:11-12)
B. Relationship and Love
Conclusion: James 4:4-10
In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. (Col. 2:11-12)
In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 Jn. 4:10)
