Here we see the completeness of Christ's sacrifice shown by:-
1. His sitting down v11,12. A sanctuary with no chair - The distinction between Christ's offering and his intercession - Christ 'sits' to execute the will of the Father.
2. The Kingship he exercises v13,14. Christ never to return to a state of humiliation - His coming again at the last day to receive his elect and subdue his enemies, 2 Thess 1:7-10 - The basis for the saints' justification, sanctification and glorification has been obtained, the application of the purchase alone remains.
3. By the covenant blessings promised in him v15-18. These blessings though bestowed under both testaments were purchased under the new and then more widely distributed to manifest Christ as the only Mediator - The one and only prevailing sacrifice for sin.
- How have we profited from these doctrines concerning the glory and superiority of Christ? Do we love him more and are we willing to suffer shame for his name?
