They asked Jesus about divorce in an effort to trick him into saying something they could catch Him on. But He answered their question with a question and basically took them back to what Moses wrote in the very beginning of the Bible about marriage.

Marriage is not a human construct; He "glues" together a man and his wife, and no one should separate that union. God's original plan for marriage was one man and one woman for life.
