When we observe the Lord's Supper, we are doing something together. While it is an intensely personal thing, it is also a very communal thing. Together in our common actions taken as a whole, we are proclaiming the message of the cross. That message is being proclaimed to one another, but it is also a drama acted out before a watching world. Jesus atoned for out sins and He lives to bring us into His fellowship on the basis of His cross work. We are declaring to the world in what we do, that there is forgiveness for sins and everlasting life through our Savior. Jesus commanded this as a public portrayal of His death to be remembered until He comes again. |
