Scripture repeatedly confirms to us that God's ways and thoughts are not our ways and thoughts. In our chapter we see that the Lord uses the unlikely strategy of subverting Ahithophel's wise counsel with the foolish counsel of Hushai in order to turn Absalom's heart to engage in a risky military campaign against David. No doubt the vanity and pride of Absalom were at least in part the means God employed to turn this fools heart because surely Hushai's plan was constructed to exalt Absalom and display his power. We cannot fail to mention either, that Ahithophel's betrayal of David and subsequent suicide serves as a pointer to Judas' betrayal of Christ and subsequent suicide, and reminds us that in the case of Jesus, God also used foolishness to subvert the evil counsel of Judas' and the religious authorities; however the foolishnes used this time to subvert widom was not that of a man, but of the cross of Christ. God indeed moves in mysterious yet marvelous ways!
