Ridgefield Park Reformed Presbyterian
Jim Pellegrini
Since the fall of the human race, man has often thought of himself as "the measure of all things." In other words, man has wanted to be his own god. This world and life view was presented to man in Satan's temptation, "[f]or God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." Because Adam and Eve forsook the creature/Creator distinction and bought into Satan's lie, this faulty world and life view has plagued the human race, for man, either individually or collectively, has thought that he is divine. This sort of thinking has led human beings, especially in their various nation-states, to think that they can solve the affects of this broken world with their own autonomous reason rather than God's revelation.
The Preamble to the US Constitution reflects man's reliance upon autonomous reason: "We the people of the United States in order to form a more perfect union..." Since 1787, when the US Constitution was ratified, the presuppositions of this nation remain the same. The people of this nation still think that they, as with the founding fathers, can pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. These presuppositions are faulty. To deal with the brokeness of this society, the people need to understand that what is needed is a "Divine Rescue". Listen to the message above to hear more about God's Rescue for individuals and nations.
