We tend to hear quite a lot these days of techniques in evangelism, but this is largely a modern concept. The apostles evangelised, but they didn't adopt or prescribe endless ways and techniques for doing so. Their zeal for God's honour and love for sinners characterised all their endeavours – ingredients which only the Spirit of God can create in the heart. Communion with Christ, without whom we can do nothing, is the need of the hour. Evangelistic endeavour is to be viewed as an integral part of godly living, and not an 'ad-on' which is optional for the Christian and distinct from all other duties. In this address the responsibility to evangelise is evidently seen as part of the moral law of God, and as God's law reflects God's character we are meant to take God's love to all men (elect and non-elect) as our pattern, as it is displayed in his common mercies to all men in this life. Matthew 5:43-48. "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."
