“ Great Sermon! ” We may deceive ourselves that we compare favourably with others and have no need of repentance, but it is the humble man who relies on the righteous of Christ alone who will be justified before God.
“ Excellent Sermon! ” This sermon was especially helpful for me, and I'm sure it will be for others who also have been praying and waiting a long time for their prayers to be answered. Keep praying, keep hoping and trusting in the Lord. He will surely answer the prayers of His own dear children.
“ Great Sermon! ” Some claim that the Bible does not condemn homosexuality, but Rev. Silversides amply demonstrates the falsehood of their claims in this sermon, scripture by scripture. Be sure to take notes!
“ Excellent Sermon! ” The Great Day of Judgment will come. Are you ready for it? Have you fled to Christ for forgiveness of your sins? Are you trusting in Him?
“ Excellent Sermon! ” A message for 'respectable' sinners who quietly attend to the mundane affairs of life, yet give no thought to the life to come: "And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed." (Luke 17:26-30)
“ Great Sermon! ” Secret rapture? No way! "For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day." (Luke 17:24)
“ Great Sermon! ” Yes, I agree with Susan Abel's comment. Challenging and convicting without being condemning. I found it very helpful in knowing what I have to do with regards to behaviour. At the risk of sounding like the person whom Rev Silversides cautions near the end of his sermon, it was a pleasure to listen to.
“ Great Sermon! ” "Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." (Luke 17:21) To attempt outward reformation of individuals, families, church or state is vain unless the Kingdom of God is first formed in the heart through faith in Jesus Christ.
“ Great Sermon! ” Are you trying to earn your way into Heaven with good works? Or do you think yourself too good a person to go to Hell?
"But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags...." (Isaiah 64:6) Even the slightest hint of sin makes us offensive to an infinitely holy God, and we all have much, much more than a hint of sin in us. We are, in fact, sinful from head to toe and to the core of our being. Salvation is entirely by faith in Christ alone, and by grace alone. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
“ Great Sermon! ” It requires much faith and love to rebuke sin in others, and also to forgive those who have sinned against us. Oh, that the Lord would increase both our faith, and our love!
“ Great Sermon! ” What care we should take that we do not stumble, by word or deed, those who would come to Christ, or the people of God: "Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones." (Luke 17:1-2)
“ Great Sermon! ” The rich man imagined he had it all, and thought himself quite secure and happy in his outward wealth. But riches in this life are no sign of acceptance with God, and even those with the greatest possessions face an everlasting hell. Whether rich or poor, only a saving faith in Jesus Christ will secure a blessed eternity in heaven!
